Sixth District Rep. Ben Cline’s bid for a fifth term in Congress is a year away, but Democratic challengers are lining up to oppose him.
The latest entry into the Democratic field is best-selling author Beth Macy, a Roanoke resident and former newspaper reporter. Macy announced her candidacy for the Democratic nomination Tuesday night in Roanoke.
She joins the 2024 6th District nominee Ken Mitchell, of Rockingham County, and Augusta County resident Pete Barlow as Democratic candidates seeking to unseat Cline, R-Botetourt.
Lowell Fulk, chairman of the Rockingham County Democratic Committee, said the nomination for the seat will be determined in a June primary.
Macy sent out an announcement and fundraising appeal on Tuesday. She said her story is a product of the American Dream.
