A Suffolk County jury on Tuesday awarded $1 million in damages to a fired Boston police officer who testified that she experienced a hostile work environment because other officers would make inappropriate comments about her sex life, among other allegations.
However, the jury was not persuaded by the plaintiff’s claims that her 2019 termination was discriminatory or constituted retaliation.
Enxhi Qirici was fired during a year-long probationary period that applies to new officers. She later sued the Boston Police Department, challenging her termination and seeking damages.
Attorneys for the city argued she was simply unfit for the job. On two separate occasions, they said, she lost control of her emotions during interactions with law enforcement officers from other agencies.
