The Soddy-Daisy Board of Commissioners could approve the rezoning of a property along Dayton Pike for an asphalt plant Thursday night for a first reading.

Municipal planning commissioners voted 3-2 last week to recommend the rezoning of 7849 Dayton Pike in the Thomas Farms area. The site is about a mile away from Ivy Academy.

The proposed site is less than a mile from where commissioners denied an asphalt plant in August.

More than three dozen people attended the November 12 meeting in opposition to the proposal by James Thomas, of the longtime Thomas Brothers Construction Company. Thomas also operates plants in Sequatchie and Bledsoe counties.
