Rafa Fonseca and the Cal State San Bernardino men’s soccer team knows how to look at their next opponent.

The sophomore forward scored the match-winning goal as CSUSB beat Point Loma 2-1 in the season opener back in September, and now the Coyotes open play in the NCAA Division II Tournament against the Sea Lions in a regional match on Saturday at 1 p.m.

“We proved ourselves against them already so it shouldn’t be so hard for us to mirror the same thing,” Fonseca said.

The No. 6 seed in the 10-team Super Region IV tournament, the Coyotes (9-3-7 overall) are making their first NCAA tournament appearance since 2019.

“The seniors here, especially, they really want to go far,” Fonseca said. “I think it’s important to everyone to have made the tournament.”
