KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A 23-year-old Knox County man faces 15 to 25 years in prison after he waited to take his one-year-old to the hospital after ingesting fentanyl, the Knox County District Attorney's Office said.
Christopher Douglas Ward was convicted of aggravated child neglect, according to the DA's Office.
On Feb. 29, 2024, Ward invited friends to his home to smoke weed. While he was smoking marijuana, the child's mother was feeding the one-year-old when she noticed something blue in the baby's mouth, the DA's office said.
After the child spat out a blue pill, Ward identified it as Roxicodone, though it was actually a pressed fentanyl pill. Ward then took the pill himself, according to the DA's office.
