A 76-year-old driver faces charges after a young pedestrian was injured in a collision in Elgin on Wednesday morning.

Shortly after 11 a.m. on Wednesday, officers with the Leeds County detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received reports that a vehicle travelling on Main Street in Elgin struck a 17-year-old girl who was a student at a nearby school, police reported Thursday.

The vehicle then left the scene, said police, adding the student suffered minor injuries.

“Leeds OPP officers located the suspect vehicle in the area,” OPP added.

A 76-year-old woman from Elgin has been charged in connection with the incident under the Highway Traffic Act, with careless driving and failing to remain at the scene, said police.
