A fire broke out inside a pavilion at the COP30 climate summit in Belém, Brazil, on Thursday (November 20), triggering panic and forcing delegates to evacuate as smoke filled the conference venue, AFP journalists reported.
UN staff and security personnel rushed in with extinguishers as flames spread inside the pavilion corridor, with attendees shouting “fire!” while running for the exits. Firefighters soon arrived on site as thick smoke billowed both inside and outside the building.
Authorities have not yet reported injuries or the cause of the fire.
