The S&P 500 dropped to a loss of 0.7% after initially soaring 1.9%, which would have marked its best day since May. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 231 points, or 0.5%, as of 12:15 p.m. Eastern time, and the Nasdaq composite was 1% lower.
