(WAND) — State Representative Adam Niemerg (R-Dieterich) is introducing legislation aimed at preventing undocumented immigrants from obtaining drivers' licenses.

"Claytons' Law" comes in the wake of the recent deaths of Coles County Board Member Mike Clayton and his wife Gail Clayton.

Edwin Pacheco-Meza, who is not in the country legally according to ICE , is accused of causing the crash and faces several charges including reckless homicide and aggravated DUI.

Key provisions of House Bill 4184, dubbed as "Claytons' Law," include:

Eligibility: Non-U.S. citizens will be barred from obtaining or renewing driver's licenses or permits in Illinois.

Language Requirement: All applicants for driver's licenses and permits must affirm their ability to read and write in English.
