LONG BEACH, Miss. (WLOX) - A gas leak was reported on Thursday after a utility crew hit a gas main and sewer main while digging at Kerr Street and Cleveland Avenue, Long Beach Fire Chief Griff Skellie confirmed.
Skellie said crews were initially concerned that gas was getting into the sewer line, but H2O, the city’s utility contractor, was able to open manhole covers and ventilate the area.
The gas is currently dissipating, according to Skellie.
The area is near several restaurants, but the businesses are not impacted. There is also no evacuation at this time, but that area of the roadway is closed.
