Travelers without a Real ID may soon have to pay a fee to get through security.
The Transportation Security Administration is considering an alternative identity verification program that could allow travelers without a Real ID-compliant driver's license, or other Real ID-compliant documents like a passport, to pass security checkpoints at the airport.
It would cost travelers $18 and would be valid for 10 days, according to a Federal Register filing .
