A Chico man received a reduced sentence of 9 years out of the possible 16 years after previously admitting guilt in August and was convicted of “felony assault causing great bodily injury, along with a prior ‘strike’ conviction and a special enhancement for a previous robbery conviction,” according to a news release from the Butte County District Attorney Office.

Dale Eugene Graybeal, 37, appeared in court Wednesday for sentencing for his part in an assault that took place on Halloween 2024 on West Sacramento Avenue in Chico.

Judge Kimberly Merrifield sentenced Graybeal to 9 years in prison, imposing a “three-year middle-term for Graybeal, doubled it under the two-strike law because of his prior Shasta robbery conviction, and added a three-year enhancement for great bodily injury,” accor
