GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, MI – A new park could be home to a future raptor sanctuary, 9&10 News reports .
This month, Grand Traverse County Parks and Recreation Department and North Sky Raptor Sanctuary presented their proposal for the county’s new park at Camp Greilick to the East Bay Township Planning Commission, the report said. It was a discussion-only agenda item; there was no vote.
Camp Greilick, near Traverse City, closed in 2016. Now, the county parks department is working to open the 200-acre site to the public. Finishing touches are underway, including adding signage throughout the parkland, officials said on Facebook .
The proposed raptor sanctuary would include educational aspects, a raptor hospital and recovery center, an interpretive trail, and a flight pen, the report
