A man who was once sleeping on the streets of Cambridge has described the reality of homelessness. Adam slept rough in Cambridge for more than a year and a half before homelessness charity Jimmy's Cambridge helped him get his life back on track.
Adam used to wash his face in the cow trough on Midsummer Common because it had a working tap. His life had unravelled through a mix of bereavement, illness and the breakdown of his relationship. Speaking about his drinking problem, Adam said: "It just takes over. "You think you’re in control until you realise you aren’t."
With help from the Jimmy’s team and partners at Change, Grow, Live (CGL), Adam started detox and rehab. It wasn’t easy; he talks about waking up in a pool of sweat and not remembering where he was. But he made it through.
