MUSKEGON, MI – A 26-year-old man was all smiles as he was escorted out of the courtroom moments after he was sentenced to life without parole for murder.

The punishment leveled against Amir Sincere Petty was inevitable after a Muskegon County jury found him guilty of first-degree murder for the shooting death of 24-year-old Jamarr Burse.

Petty appeared unfazed by the sentence imposed on Thursday, Nov. 20, following an emotional victim impact statement from Burse’s sister.

Petty offered no apology or explanation behind the shooting during his time to speak.

Petty shot and killed Burse on Dec. 29, 2022, in an ambush-style shooting in Norton Shores. Police found Burse dead in a vehicle near Continental Street and East Columbia Avenue.
