The Philippines has become a pageant powerhouse, consistently ranking among the most successful countries at international competitions, and producing four Miss Universe winners overall. Throughout the year, people from all walks of life take part in pageants in cities, villages and schools across the nation. CNN visited Manila and met this year’s Miss Universe Philippines, Ahtisa Manalo, to find out more about the country’s national pastime.
