Akron has again earned a perfect score on the Human Rights Campaign’s (HRC) LGBTQ+ Municipal Equality Index.

"This year, Akron earned a raw score of 108, which ties the highest score the city has earned since first starting to participate in the index back in 2015," the city said in a Nov. 20 news release. "Akron has also been named an 'All-Star City' by the Human Rights Campaign for earning over 85 points despite the state of Ohio lacking non-discrimination statutes that explicitly protect sexual orientation and gender identity."

The index evaluates cities on these factors:

Non-discrimination laws

Protections and benefits for LGBTQ+ employees

Municipal services, including services for LGBTQ+ youth, homeless and older adults

Law enforcement's treatment of LGBTQ+ community members and
