The Boston Red Sox are making roster moves throughout the organization and recently released a former prized international prospect. Boston released Vladimir Asencio on Nov. 7, according to his MLB.com transaction log.
Asencio signed with the Red Sox as an international prospect in 2024 for a $1 million signing bonus. The young outfielder was the No. 34 international prospect in his class, according to MLB Pipeline. He was the No. 25 Red Sox prospect in 2024 and one of their biggest signings during the 2024 international signing period.
In 2024, he played 43 games for the DSL Red Sox Red, slashing .165/.317/.195 with 13 RBIs. In 2025, he was placed on the restricted list on July 23, but no reason was revealed. He was activated off the restricted list on Nov. 7 and released.
