After years of planning, Silo Square finally has its own grocery store.

South Point Grocery opened its doors Nov. 20, and despite the pouring rain, hundreds of people came to see the ribbon cutting and dedication of the store at 6295 Front St. in the Southaven development.

Rick James is the CEO of Castle Retail Group, which owns South Point Grocery. He said he's proud to become a core part of the Silo Square community.

"It's a really, really exciting day for us," James said. "We kind of got into this cycle of big box retail stores, and we lost a little bit of that feel of a grocery store being where you see your neighbors and friends, and you know your cashier's name... [South Point] is a return to that."
