BELTON, Texas — Belton Independent School District recognized an employee this November for going above and beyond, saving a student's life in the process.
At the Board of Trustees meeting on Nov. 17, the district recognized Lori Curry, a Paraprofessional at High Point Elementary, for her "quick, life-saving actions" to save a student from choking.
During lunch on Nov. 6, the district said Curry saw a kindergarten student named Adonis "in distress." Curry quickly realized Adonis was choking, and immediately performed the Heimlich maneuver, helping him to breathe again, BISD said.
Belton ISD said Adonis was able to return to class after being evaluated by a nurse thanks to Curry's "calm and courageous response."
