Critics, whether we admit it or not, traffic in nostalgia. We're forever rummaging through the past, holding old records up to the light to see what still glows and what was only a trick of memory. Sometimes when we examine an artifact from the past, it doesn't match our memory of it. The yards are smaller then we remember, the rooms more modest.
