Firefighters are battling a large fire in an industrial area in North Delta on Thursday.
Delta and Surrey firefighters were dispatched to the fire in the 9300-block of Alaska Way just before 9:10 a.m., said the City of Delta.
The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority, which owns the land, said the site is a former mill under demolition.
“There is currently no impacts to port operations,” said a spokeswoman, adding the port authority’s harbour patrol team is on the water to assess whether additional measures are needed.
Flames could be seen bursting from the roof of the mill as firefighters used ladder trucks to get the blaze under control. By 1:30 p.m., crews got the fire under control but were still working to extinguish it, said the city. About 30 firefighters and 14 fire trucks responded
