PEMBROKE — Christie Poteet, assistant vice chancellor for student affairs at UNC Pembroke, has been selected as the recipient of the 2025 Governor’s Award for Excellence in Public Service, the highest honor bestowed upon state employees in North Carolina.

Poteet was recognized during a ceremony Wednesday at the State Archives Building, followed by a reception at the Executive Mansion in Raleigh.

The award honors Poteet’s 17-year legacy of empowering students, strengthening community partnerships and championing initiatives that support basic needs and expand access to educational opportunity.
