BOWLING GREEN, Ohio — Starbucks baristas in Bowling Green walked off the job Thursday as part of a nationwide strike aimed at pressuring the coffee chain to negotiate what workers call a fair union contract.
Starbucks Workers United organized the local action, joined by supporters calling for higher take-home pay, stronger on-the-job protections and guaranteed hours for baristas.
The walkout follows last week’s Red Cup Day, one of Starbucks’ busiest annual promotions, when employees at more than 70 stores across the country went on strike.
Strike captain and barista Emily Marks said workers felt they had no choice but to escalate efforts.
