CAMDEN, S.C. — The annual Colonial Cup in Camden is less than three days away. It’s the 50th anniversary of the event, held at the Springdale Race Course.
The grandstand at Springdale Race Course is currently sitting empty and quiet — a way most people have never seen it. But in just two days, it will be full of fans cheering on horses for this year’s 50th Colonial Cup.
Toby Edwards, executive director of the Springdale Race Course, says the upcoming weekend is important not only for the course, but also for Camden’s economy.
“It brings a lot of out-of-towners to Camden… this is the final steeplechase meet of the season. And there are championships on the line. And the results of the races on Sunday will have an influence on who wins some of the championships,” Edwards said.
