The Alabama Public Library Service Board of Directors has approved a significant code change aimed at protecting children and reinforcing parental authority in public libraries.

On Tuesday, the board passed an amendment restricting materials that promote transgender procedures or the concept of more than two biological genders from youth sections.

APLS Chairman John Wahl emphasized the importance of parental control over children's library access.

“Today’s vote is a major win for Alabama families. Parents—not unelected bureaucrats—should be deciding what their children are exposed to,” Wahl said.
