The Macomb County Board of Commissioners approved the 2026 budget on Thursday without adding any of the 18-½ new positions sought by the county administration.
The $1.1-billion budget, including a $365-million general-fund budget, was unanimously approved by the 13-member board at its monthly meeting in the county Administration Building despite a request by County Executive Mark Hackel to add at least seven “essential” posts.
The additions would have increased the number of general-fund positions from 1.493 to 1,511 at a cost of $2.1 million, with an additional $700,000 coming from other sources.
