BATTLE CREEK, MI –– Down two sets to start off the match, Farmington Hills Mercy didn’t flinch.
Mercy took down Byron Center in the MHSAA D1 state semifinals at Kellogg Arena on Thursday, Nov. 20, to punch a ticket to the state finals.
Mercy won three sets in a row to secure the feat.
Byron Center won the first set, 27-25, and the second, 26-24.
However, Farmington Hills Mercy wouldn’t go away quietly.
Mercy dominated in the the third set to win 25-16.
Mercy claimed the fourth set decisively, 25-17.
What once was a 2-0 lead for Byron Center, 0-2 deficit for Mercy, dwindled down to one fifth and final set.
Mercy won the fifth set, 16-14.
In a marathon of a game, that ran two hours and 21 minutes, Mercy found a way to win.
