Huntingdon College football player James Owens has died, the school has announced . He was 20 years old.

Owens died earlier this month after being involved in a two-car crash in Chilton County, Ala., according to ABC 33/40 in Birmingham .

Huntingdon College is located in Montgomery, Ala., about 50 miles from Chilton County.

In the release announcing his death, Huntingdon described what Owens was like as a college football player, as well as a person.

“James was a towering presence of kindness and a force to be reckoned with as a member of the defensive line on Huntingdon’s football team,” the release states. “He was a great representative of our college on and off the field.
