As food insecurity grows in Greater Cincinnati and across the country, local groups are stepping up to help those in need.

The Freestore Foodbank is teaming up with the Cincinnati Reds to ensure no one goes hungry this holiday season. Advertisement

The Reds and the Freestore Foodbank have been hosting this event since the COVID-19 pandemic and it is the biggest single-day event Freestore will host throughout the year.

This year, the organizations handed out 100,000 pounds of food to 2,000 families. Volunteers said it's an opportunity to give back because there's a lot to be thankful for.

Families unable to attend Thursday can go to the Freestore's Liberty Street Market and the Bea Taylor Market for holiday meal items throughout November and December.
