LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) released a preliminary report Monday with new details on the UPS cargo plane crash that occurred just over two weeks ago.
The report includes photographs showing the left engine separating from the wing as the aircraft attempted to take off.
Reed Yadon, a longtime aviation expert, broke down the NTSB findings, noting the engine’s critical failure.
"The left engine came off, and it was on fire. It was still producing thrust as it separated," Yadon said, describing the engine’s separation captured in the newly released photos.
The sequence of images, taken from airport surveillance cameras, shows the plane rotating for takeoff before the left engine detached and ignited.
