SAN JOSE — A driver died after crashing into a tree on Moorpark Avenue early Friday, police said.
The deadly collision was reported at 1:39 a.m., and an initial San Jose police investigation determined that a man driving a black 2016 Subaru sedan was eastbound on Moorpark past Monroe Street when he veered right and hit a tree on the south side of the roadway.
The driver, described only as a man, died at the scene, police said. His name was not publicly released pending his formal identification and notification of his next of kin by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office.
Additional details were not immediately released Friday. The crash marks the city’s 36th traffic death of the year; San Jose recorded 45 deaths at the same point in 2024.
