NHS ‘kidney’ warning for people taking ramipril for high blood pressure View Image
People being prescribed ramipril could be at risk of suffering a serious kidney-related side effect that may need be monitored by a doctor. Ramipril is commonly prescribed to treat heart failure and high blood pressure, otherwise known as hypertension and may be prescribed following a heart attack.
Ramipril helps treat these conditions by widening the body's blood vessels, allowing blood to pump more easily across the body. Typically, the drug is prescribed as a capsule, tablet, or a liquid that you can swallow with more than 34 million prescriptions dispensed last year.
While ramipril can be effective at treating hypertension and some heart conditions, it can also cause a wide variety of side effects.
