Hundreds of families took over Burswood Park as the annual WA Day Festival kicked off yesterday.

There was plenty to see and do on the action-packed agenda on day one of the two-day extravaganza in celebration of our State.

Punters were treated to a speccy display from Hardwired BMX across their three shows, with the crew’s youngest member, six-year-old Ziggy, proving a fan favourite as he wowed spectators with his gutsy array of tricks.

At the Spudshed Stage, Channel 7’s Rick Ardon was undertaking a controversial twist on the humble spring roll, filling them with haggis.

The bumper cars proved popular among young and old as a steady line for the ride formed early and remained most of the day.
