Tempe Community Action Agency and Nourish Phoenix have both been serving over 150 people per day since Nov. 1, making this year one of the busiest.

Both organizations felt a push when the Trump Administration announced that SNAP, or Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program recipients, would not be allotted their full funding during the government shutdown.

Local businesses stepped in to help.

“Our community really is amazing and has helped so much by stepping in,” said Beth Fiorenza, executive director of Nourish PHX, a nonprofit that provides food, clothing, diapers, hygiene products and more to the Phoenix area families and those in need.

In Tempe, the same pressures have been on the community and led to an increase of need for both families and singles.
