Investigators used "blatantly unlawful" search warrants to raid the home and offices of former University of Michigan co-offensive coordinator Matt Weiss and a federal judge should suppress evidence collected from computers, phones and electronic devices, his lawyer said late Friday.
The request provides a behind-the-scenes view of raids in January 2023 and shows UM Police Department investigators seized 17 devices from Weiss' home and office, as well as the quarterback and tight end meeting rooms at the campus Administrative Services Building and Schembechler Hall, the nerve center of the football team. FBI agents later obtained court authorization to search the devices, according to the filing.
