The minister of justice and public safety recently returned from meetings with her provincial and territorial counterparts in Toronto, an experience that she calls a good opportunity for dialogue on emergency preparedness.

Helen Conway Ottenheimer says there are systemic issues affecting emergency response across the country that require a coordinated approach to future natural disasters.

She says the ability to work together is essential.

She met with various provincial ministers from the Atlantic provinces with a commitment for future meetings to discuss coordinated responses to wildfires “or any other disaster that may occur.”
