Perth: The first Test of the 2025 Ashes series in Perth was remarkably brief with Australia winning by 8 wickets , but it does not hold the record for the shortest Ashes series or even the shortest Ashes Test in all of cricket history.
The Perth Test, completed in just two days with 140.3 overs bowled, was the seventh Ashes Test ever completed inside two days and the third shortest match in cricket history to produce a result in terms of balls bowled. The two shortest Tests in Ashes history in terms of balls bowled occurred during the 1888 Ashes series in England, with matches at Old Trafford (788 balls) and Lord's (792 balls) being shorter than Perth's 847 balls. The Perth Test is the shortest Ashes Test ever played in Australia, shorter than the previous shortest at the SCG in 1894/95
