IOWA CITY, Iowa — Food waste tends to spike from November to New Year's due to the diverse holiday celebrations.

Table to Table , a local food rescue nonprofit, encourages residents to donate quality food and personal hygiene items. These donations are distributed across the Johnson County Food Access Network to major pantries, including CommUnity Food Pantry, Coralville Community Food Pantry, North Liberty Community Pantry, and the Food Pantry at Iowa.

To reduce food waste during holiday gatherings, organizers suggest shopping from your kitchen before heading to the store, sharing leftovers with guests, using up leftover ingredients, freezing unused food, and composting coffee grounds, eggshells, and meat bones.
