The Eagles' seniors have wanted to play for a state title since they were fourth-graders. After sweeping No. 1 Mendon on Saturday, that dream came true.
BATTLE CREEK — Josie Simon was in fourth grade when Fowler finished as the runner-up during the 2017 Class D volleyball state championship at Kellogg Arena.
“I came to the game and watched,” said Simon, now a senior. “I didn’t really know for sure what was going on, but I knew I wanted to be there someday because I knew it was awesome, and the atmosphere was great.”
Eight years later, Simon and the No. 2 Eagles (36-8-2) realized that goal, and got one step further, sweeping top-ranked Mendon 3-0 to claim the program’s first Division 4 state championship.
