OTTAWA – Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree is set to meet with his counterparts from the Group of Seven nations today in Ottawa. The two-day gathering will focus on pressing issues such as transnational organized crime, synthetic drugs, and migrant smuggling.
The agenda also includes discussions on how to combat online threats, including terrorist and violent extremist content, cybercrime, and the internet-related aspects of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
Magnus Brunner, the European Commissioner for Internal Affairs and Migration, emphasized the urgency of these discussions. He noted that security challenges are evolving rapidly and that no single country can tackle them alone. Brunner stated, "Europe is deepening its cooperation with trusted partners, including the G7, as it undertakes the most ambitious reform of the European Union’s migration and asylum policy in its history."
Anandasangaree is expected to hold a news conference on Sunday following the meetings to provide updates on the discussions and outcomes. The G7 meeting aims to foster collaboration among member countries to address these critical security issues effectively.
