GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The Gerald R. Ford International Airport (GRR) in Grand Rapids is expecting record-breaking travel numbers this Thanksgiving.

Heidi Groenboom, the communications and events supervisor at GRR, said it's estimated that more than 153,000 passengers will pass through the airport this holiday season, which is 5% higher than last year's record-breaking numbers.

The peak travel dates at the airport this Thanksgiving began on Friday, Nov. 21 and will run through Tuesday, Dec. 3. Groenboom said the busiest departure day will be Monday, Nov. 24.

She said departure times usually peak in the morning around 6 a.m., with the first rush of traffic, and then the afternoon sees another spike from 3 to 5 p.m.
