Winter is most certainly coming — in about nine days, to be precise, meteorologically — and right on time. It appears Mother Nature is following the calendar, too. We have a few elements of winter weather poised to shake up Minnesota over the coming days: snow, cold, and more snow.

Let’s deal with the relatively minor system first, late Monday into Tuesday night. As the first volley of colder air arrives, a quick-moving disturbance will develop a few light rain showers late Monday into Tuesday for southern Minnesota. That precipitation will fall as snow across northern Minnesota.

A decent snowfall of up to several inches is possible in northern Minnesota, with perhaps even a coating in the Twin Cities on Wednesday.
