Surf will rise up to 15 feet on the north shores of most islands and 12 feet on west shores this weekend, forecasters said today.
The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a high surf advisory for the north and west shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu and Molokai, and for the north shores of Maui, from noon today until 6 p.m. Sunday.
The northwest swell will gradually rise this afternoon and peak tonight into Sunday, forecasters said. Waves will peak at 10 to 15 feet along affected north shores, and 8 to 12 feet along west shores.
“Strong breaking waves and strong currents will make swimming dangerous,” the advisory says.
