Hundreds of people turned up on the runaway of Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) this morning. 350 runners braved the elements in the early hours of Saturday, November 22 to take part in a unique event.
At 2am, the runway lights were all on, but instead of being used to guide aircraft for take offs and lightings, they lit the way for the runners who were all participating in the 5K Runway Run.
With flights departing and arriving at the airport year round from early in the morning until late at night, the airport company has been planning the event for months , working with a gap in the airline schedules to stage the race between 2am and 3.30am on Saturday morning, without impacting on normal a
