Alex Kingston opened up about her devastating cancer diagnosis on the special Strictly Come Dancing Blackpool show.

The 62-year-old actress, best known for her stints on ER and Doctor Who , had a hysterectomy after being diagnosed with womb cancer.

She had suffered a 'shocking' haemorrhage while performing on stage and tests revealed her cancer had spread.

Her husband Jonathan Stamp, a television producer, said on the BBC show in a video before her latest performance: "I'm insanely proud of her and it's extraordianary for me to think that only a year ago Alex was really not well."
