FEDERAL WAY — Last season, the Hockinson girls soccer team was a bit of an unknown quantity.
The Hawks graduated a chunk of their roster from the previous season, and they had a new head coach.
But the Hawks proved many doubters wrong by reaching the 2A state playoffs in 2024, setting up for a deep run in 2025.
That run ended Saturday with a 2-0 loss to Anacortes in the third-place match at the 2A state championships. But coach Tony Ayala could not be more proud of his team.
“I’m so proud of the girls and so proud of making it to the final four,” Ayala said. “This experience was awesome, and that is what memories are made of, right?”
Coming off a tough loss to West Valley of Spokane on Friday, the Hawks could not match Anacortes’ intensity early on Saturday.
