Syracuse, N.Y. — One of the best programs in college football history took advantage of Syracuse to score 35 points in the first quarter, part of what may have been the best quarter in Notre Dame history.
According to the South Bend Tribune, the 35 points matches the Notre Dame record for most points in a first quarter, matching an effort by Knute Rockne’s 1921 Irish against Kalamazoo College.
The first 15 minutes of football almost certainly ranked among the worst in Syracuse history.
Notre Dame returned an interception for a touchdown on the game’s second play of the game. It tacked on a special teams touchdown and another interception return, taking a 21-0 edge before even running an offensive play.
