Guess Magnus Carlsen has the last laugh yet again.
The International Chess Federation (FIDE) has rolled out a much-relaxed dress code for next month’s World Rapid and Blitz Championships in Doha, a move that arrives one year after Magnus Carlsen’s infamous “jeansgate" clash at the same event.
The updated rules now explicitly permit classic, non-distressed jeans in blue, black or grey for both men and women, as part of an expanded business-casual standard for the Dec. 25–30 tournament.
Suits, unicoloured shirts, dress shoes, loafers and even plain sneakers are allowed for men, while women may opt for pant or skirt suits, dresses, blouses or dark trousers including jeans.
