NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) — The Newport Police Department said that an additional juvenile was arrested in the case of an alleged assault against a special needs student.

The 16-year-old male was charged with assault.

Police said that they were made aware of several cell phone recordings of the assault in the boys’ locker room at the school.

Newport Public Schools Superintendent Colleen Burns Jermain also announced that the school’s football season had been cancelled due to the videos.
